The Scottish "Vestibule" according to Lizzie and
"Vegetable" according to Lincoln was so much fun this year. The
weather was perfect. The festival was packed with Kilts and costumes and
uniforms. People really got into it this year, even Jon, Jazzy's hubby. He wore
Lee's kilt that Lee had left in the closet upstairs. It was fun to see so many
of them in their getup. Rick had his kilt on too of course and grandpa Jack had
a new kilt this year- they all looked very dashing. We watched the Wicked
Tinkers and at one point, we were headed back to the shade tent to watch them
for their second session. Lincoln says to me, "We're coming here
again?". I said, "Yea, we like listening to this band, don't
you?" He replied, "I don't! This music is dumb!". It made me
laugh. I guess it's not for everyone-I can attest to that. I can jam out to the Wicked Tinkers once a year and I do enjoy it but I don't listen to bag pipes in my spare time for enjoyment, although, I have a feeling I may be converted once Rick buys his bagpipes. Oh yeah, did you know Rick has been practicing a chanter pipe for the last year and will be getting his own set of bag pipes within the year?..well, you do now. I am so proud of him and love to hear his tunes. I love how dedicated he has been to this and I look forward to seeing where it takes him.
But back to the Scottish festivities- Lincoln got himself a sword and ax and Lizzie got a whistle flute. They were perfect little toys for the both of them. Linc had fun challenging everyone to an ax/sword fight and Lizzie had mind controlling powers with her flute that made everyone dance while she played. Brittany's Jack and I both had Lizzie's whistle song stuck in our heads for most the day. I took Lizzie to the bathroom and I heard her singing it in the stalls- it was funny. Even Lizzie couldn't get it out of her head. I got me a Wicked Tinkers tank top and a cool shirt that Jazzy found in one of the Irish booths. It has the best, most awesome-est quote on the back- I couldn't resist. The Quote:
"For as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under tyrannical dominion. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honors that we are fighting, but for freedom, for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."
-Declaration of Arbroath- 1320
We all got some pretty cool things-shirts, flags, giant glass bottle drinks, swords, and ties. It was a load of fun and a perfect day!
P.S. The Wicked Tinkers were awesome this year- I swear they get better each year.
